[ Honerva knew of plenty of worse alternatives. The entirely of her life was a minefield of them. Her exploration in the past month surely was not so dire, but she had held Lup in her arms during that test and the two of them had both suffered afterward. If they had stayed longer, even without such a test involved, perhaps ... for all the concern it invoked, they understood their limits better. Better not to dwell on the alternatives now.
She has not partook in the wine herself, to know why it is that he is compelled to act as he now does, but it is his mere proximity that captures her, finding herself overcome by his gentle intent more than anything else, ears shifting in her confusion, that unbidden rush of warmth that blooms once more in her cheeks. The tenderness in his actions that tugged so deeply at her heart, as unexpected as it all was. He spoke to her through more than words, to that part of her that had been denied such closeness and affection for so long.
Even now, being held so close by Cor, she was highly confused by the suddenness of it. He was concerned, certainly, that was without saying. But then for him to step further, this demonstration of... care, she did not know if it were simply better to let them both simply be, in this moment, even as she wrestled with her own sense of guilt; he did not know her, or what he invoked in her or why, and he might sooner regret, and yet he was offering her this. But why? Surely it could not be for her.
There is no room for words or those considerations and besides, he has taken her breath away. There is no one there to observe them, but for the moonlight and the cat, who watches them intently but does not offer interference just yet.
He has offered tenderness to her, and despite all else, she gives in to that need that stirs in her, and kisses him in return. ]
